Heather O’Reilly: FA Cup Final at Wembley “ranks really high in my career”

Heather O’Reilly has seen it all. A legend at international level for the United States, you would be forgiven for thinking it would be hard to impress her.

But such is the magic and history of an FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium, that she was moved by all she experienced on May 5 2018.

“It was a tough result but the occasion was spectacular. I was really trying to soak it in.

“It was a really special event. This ranks really high in my career in terms of the spectacle of it.”

It goes without saying that O’Reilly, who has no shortage of silverware in her personal trophy cabinet, would have liked to add another winners’ medal but as many of the Gunners players graciously admitted, Chelsea were better on the day.

Arsenal captain Kim Little said:

“Chelsea outplayed us today and we’re obviously very disappointed.”

Arsenal still have the consolation of having won the League Cup and Chelsea are not done for the season as Voice and ABN reporter Anne-Marie Batson explained:

Although Chelsea walked away with the trophy today, their season is far from over.

In the FAWSL itself, Chelsea Ladies are level with Manchester City Women on points and both have four games left.

Both are searching unique and interesting doubles. Chelsea of course are looking for the Cup and League double within the women’s game while City would accomplish a league double across the gender divide after their men clinched the English Premier League.

Chelsea and Manchester City are locked in a duel at the top

Of the two, City appear to have the tougher run in.

Chelsea host Birmingham and Sunderland but visit Bristol City and Liverpool, whereas Manchester City visit Liverpool and Arsenal but host Yeovil and Everton.

City’s visit to Arsenal on May 12th looks one of the potential banana skins for the Citizens, while Chelsea have no remaining games against the top four.

Both also have a tricky visit to Liverpool but only City have the chance to really bolster their goal difference against bottom side Yeovil.
