Gameday takeaways from Game 12 vs. Chicago Fire

This past Saturday was a bit crucial in my opinion.

Not just winning but winning with confidence. Saturday was a confidence-builder before the Crew face a schedule of opponents upcoming that are much tougher overall as six out of the next seven opponents for the Columbus Crew find themselves in a playoff position.

After the Chicago game, Gyasi Zardes holds the lead in Major League Soccer on the goal chart, with Josef Martinez of Atlanta United, both on eight goals. But I think surprisingly Gyasi has yet to get going yet at 100% percent.

His last goal against Chicago, via Mike Grella’s trickery, I believe will really get him going:

And watch out if that prediction becomes true.

I think Zardes is possibly better than both Kei and Ola Kamara. But for all three Gregg Berhalter has propped their careers back up.

If Berhalter coaches in Major League Soccer over the next twenty years, because of that he will never have a problem finding strikers.

In addition, the Chicago game was Columbus’s third defensive shutout in a row.

It’s been a minute since the last one.
