Vancouver Whitecaps 4-Minnesota United FC 2

Alphonso Davies may be leaving the Vancouver Whitecaps but he is not going to be leaving on a whimper. On Saturday night the Bayern Munich midfielder put on a show at BC Place, scoring twice and assisting on two others in the Whitecaps (8-9-5, 29 points) 4-2 win over of Minnesota United FC (9-12-1, 28 points).

Jordy Reyna got things started with his goal in the 35th minute, finishing a pass inside from Davies for his fourth of the season. Davies made it 2-0 at the beginning of the second half with a goal of his own, zigging and zagging through the Loons defense and lifting his goal past goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth in the 56th minute. Kei Kamara made it 3-0 in the 64th minute, finihing off a Davies counter-attacking run with a lightning bolt of a shot.

Minnesota did make things interesting late with a pair of goals from Ibson (82′) and Abu Danladi (87′). But Davies slammed the door shut on the Loons comeback run and gave the club their second win of the week.

On hand to cover the match was Prost Amerika photographer Gerrit te Hennepe. You can check out his shots from the match below and all of his Whitecaps photos from the 2018 season on SmugMug.
