D.C. United 3-San Jose Earthquakes 1

Wayne Rooney, who? On Saturday night at Avaya Stadium D.C. United’s attack showed that they didn’t need a certain Englishman to score goals for them. Thanks to an early offensive explosion, they defeated the San Jose Earthquakes 3-1 to earn their first road win of the season.

United’s goals were scored by Zoltan Stieber (13′), Darren Mattocks (20′), and Yamil Asad (37′). The Earthquakes did manage to get one back thanks to Danny Hoesen’s strike in the 43rd minute. But credit to United goalkeeper David Ousted for putting the breaks on a San Jose comeback, making five saves to preserve the win.
