Colorado Rapids 1-Vancouver Whitecaps 0

Own goal is performing well for both club and country this summer. After scoring five times (thus far) in the 2018 World Cup they also made their presence felt on Sunday at BC Place. Despite having just 30 percent of possession the Colorado Rapids (4-9-3, 15 points) used own goal to defeat the Vancouver Whitecaps (6-7-5, 23 points) 1-0 on Canada Day.

The lone goal of the match came in the 43rd minute when Rapids forward Joe Mason hit a shot off of Whitecaps Marcel de Jong that careened into the back of the net. While the Whitecaps certainly had their chances throughout the match, hitting 10 shots on target, they could not solve Rapids goalkeeper Tim Howard who made 10 saves en route to the shutout.

On hand to cover the match was Prost Amerika photographer Gerrit te Hennepe. You can check out his shots from the match below and all of his Whitecaps photos from the 2018 season on SmugMug.
