D.C. United has announced that it has signed rookie midfielder Miguel Aguilar. The University of San Francisco product was selected by the Black-and-Red in the first round (17th overall) in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft.

“We are pleased to have signed Miguel,” said D.C. United General Manager Dave Kasper. “He’s a player with very good attacking qualities, and he has a very strong desire to make an impact in Major League Soccer.”

Aguilar was a four-year standout at San Francisco, where he played 72 games, scoring 15 goals and adding nine assists. In his senior season he was named 2014 All-West Coast Conference First Team and earned NSCAA All-Far West Region Second Team honors. He was named to the All-West Coast Conference Second Team in each of his first three seasons and during his freshman year he led the Dons in goals (5) and assists (3).

Born in Cuidad Juarez, Mexico, Aguilar has appeared in every preseason game for the Black-and-Red as an outside midfielder and recorded his first professional goal on Feb. 13, in a 2-0 victory over the Austin Aztex. Aguilar scored the game’s first goal, beating two defenders and blasted a left-footed shot from 25 yards into the top left corner.
