Claudio Bravo to defend Argentina’s U-23 National team colors in the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympics

Portland Timbers defender Claudio Bravo has been called to the U-23 Argentina Men’s National Team roster for the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympics. La Albiceleste or Argentina National Team will be competing in Group C against Egypt, Spain, and Australia.

Claudio Bravo has made ten appearances for the U-23 squad and is one of the contributors to the Argentine side’s recent win in the 2020 CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament. For him, this will be his first appearance at the Olympics. So far in the tournament Claudio Bravo, has started in 14 matches across all MLS competitions in 2021, with one assist in a 2-2 tie against the Houston Dynamo.

The Portland Timbers acquired Bravo from Argentinian club Atletico Banfield to reinforce the team defensive backfield using Targeted Allocation Money (TAM).

The career of Bravo started in the youth academy of Banfield, making his professional debut with the first team in a 4-0 win over Rosario Central on September 24, 2017. In his time with El Taladro (the drill), Bravo tallied four assists in 56 appearances (54 starts) across all competitions from (2017-20) with Banfield.

The Olympic adventure for Claudio Bravo will begin on July 22 against Australia (3:30 a.m. PST). The next game for Argentina and Bravo will be against Egypt on July 25 (12:30 a.m. PST) and to close on group play facing off on July 28 against Spain (4:00 a.m. PST).
