Vancouver Whitecaps 2- Portland Timbers 0

Alphonso Davies might be gone but after his final appearance for the Vancouver Whitecaps he certainly will not be forgotten. The Canadian wonderkid pulled off one more dazzling performance for his Vancouver supporters, scoring twice in the Caps 2-0 win over the Portland Timbers.

Davies goals came in the 28th and 31st minutes, pushing his season total to eleven. He will be heading to Bayern Munich on January 1st after having signed with the German club back in July. Goalkeeper Stefan Marinovic did allow one goal, but was otherwise flawless in his performance making four stops in the win.

Portland’s lone goal came from Andres Flores in the 90th minute. Timbers coach Giovanni Savarese went with mostly an experimental lineup, a risk considering that the club had the chance to host a playoff game. With the loss, the Timbers (15-10-9, 54 points) positioned themselves in the number five seed in the Western Conference. They will face FC Dallas on Wednesday night at Toyota Park.

As for Vancouver the win not just marks the end of the 2018 season, but also of an era at BC Place. In addition to Davies, Kendall Waston and Brek Shea are not expected to be back next season. Those moves, coupled with the end of Carl Robinson era, means that Vancouver will be going through a bit of a rebuild over the winter. The Davies transfer fee will give the club a bit of flexibility in the market. The question is now can they make good use of it.
