Vancouver Whitecaps 1-Portland Timbers 0

Fredy Montero is once again back to haunt the Portland Timbers. The former Seattle Sounder and now two-time Vancouver Whitecap has long been a splinter in the Timbers. Friday night proved to be no different as his goal in the ninth minute pushed the Whitecaps over their Cascadian foes 1-0 at BC Place.

Montero’s goal came off of a slick pass from Inbeom Hwang. The South Korean international found Montero at the top of the key who then worked a give-and-go with Russell Teibert to create the game’s only goal. He now has three goals on the season.

Portland did have their chance to equalize late with Diego Valeri ripping a shot from close range. But Whitecaps Maxime Crepeau did enough to block the chance, making one of his five saves on the match.
