ABOUT CUP BOUND & CROWNED

With a foreword by Timber Jim Serrill, Cup Bound & Crowned chronicles the Portland Timbers historic season. There are chapters covering the regular season with a special one called The Surge that deals with the the three remarkable victories that ensured Portland would qualify for the playoffs in style.

Another chapter covers the playoffs, and of course there are several about the amazing events that surrounded both the build up and the final itself in Columbus. However, Cup Bound & Crowned goes beyond the matches. There are chapters devoted to some of the leading personalities in Portland’s soccer community including Timber Jim himself, capo Sunday White and General Manage Gavin Wilkinson.

Other features honor the 1975 Timbers with a chapter by Roger Anthony and a guest chapter called How the West was Won by ex-BBC football writer and reporter Richard Fleming. There’s an emotional tribute by our Argentine photographer to Portland’s Latino influence in a chapter called Portland’s Heart beats to Latin Rhythms. Cascadian Player of the Year Jorge Villafana has his own chapter.

There are designs by Portland graphic artist Brent Diskin and some fantastic full color photography by Prost’s cameramen from both home games and road ones. Columbus Crew beat writer Nino Torres weighs in with an appreciation of the visiting Timbers Army on cup final weekend. Most intriguingly, our Seattle beat writers weighed in with three thought provoking articles on how Portland’s win affects the wider Cascadian rivalry.

And there’s a wedding.  There’s so much more including the inside story of how EPIC the drum made into the stadium and how Timber Joey’s victory log came to be an issue in the week of the final.
