Bayern extend lead at the top

Bayern Munich made it 16 matches unbeaten in all competitions with a straightforward 3-0 win over FC Köln and extended their lead at the top of the Bundesliga to seven points in the process after RB Leipzig were held by Augsburg on Friday.

It was the hosts who had the first best chance in the 18th minute, but Yuya Osako’s header was stopped by Manuel Neuer. It was just one of two shots on target for FC Köln. Seven minutes later, Bayern were on top. A series of passes off a corner kick culminated in Arturo Vidal crossing to Javi Martinez who scored from point-blank range.

Three minutes into the second half, Juan Bernat got on the scoresheet beating Thomas Kessler near post. It was Bernat’s first league goal and Thomas Müller’s ninth league assist. In the 90th minute, Bernat turned provided for Franck Ribery to cap off the scoring.

It’s back to the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday for the return leg of their Round of 16 match at Arsenal. Bayern currently hold a 5-1 lead in the tie. Kickoff is at 1:45pm CT on FS1.
