ATL UTD 2 dominate but fail to capitalize and fall 0-2 to Nashville

Atlanta United 2 fall to Nashville SC 0-2 at Coolray field, dropping their third match in a row. ATL UTD 2 was the aggressor all match dominating extended portions of the match with possession and chances. Atlanta ended up with 17 shots four more than the visitors and controlled possession for 65% of the match to only 35%. However, the home side was unable to convert their dominance into goals and ultimate was beat on the counter.

Atlanta produced its best chance of the night in the 48th minute when Chris Goslin played Romario Williams to the left side of the box where his shot passed just wide of the far post.

ATL UTD 2 head coach Scott Donnelly described the different approaches to the match, “They are only playing for points and they are desperate for those points. They needed these three points to get themselves into playoff position. So, they were conservative. They played a conservative game, a high percentage game, a bit more of a disruptive game tonight. For what their wanting to do or needing to do, I don’t fault them for that. For us it is a little more about
how we play, as much as it is about development and about points. I thought the way we set
ourselves up tonight was successful.”
