Atlanta United returns to action on Wednesday, September 19 when they travel to San Jose to meet the Earthquakes at Avaya Stadium. Atlanta is coming off a 3-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids on Saturday afternoon. San Jose is looking to bounce back from a 5-1 loss at home to Sporting Kansas City on Sept. 15.

San Jose announced the parting of ways with head coach Mikael Stahre on Monday. Assistant coach Steve Ralston has been given the task of coaching the club for the remainder of the season as an interim head coach. San Jose has struggled all season and now sits in last place in the Western Conference with only four wins.

Atlanta enters the match in first place in the Supporters’ Shield Standings with 57 points. They are just a point in front of the New York Red Bull, although Atlanta has a game in hand. With the 17 wins so far this season, Atlanta is within reach of the record for most wins in the post-shootout era (since 2000). The record is held by the 2014 Seattle Sounders and 2018 Toronto FC, with 20 wins. With six games remaining, a win here would put them within two wins, with 3 home matches and 2 road matches left on the schedule.

Squad Details

Darlington Nagbe returned from injury and earned his first start in three months. He was effective, having 33 passes and 100% passing accuracy including three longs balls. It is no coincidence that his return marks the first time that Miguel Almirón had two goals in a match since the first match without Nagbe on the field.
