Atletico Madrid and Chivas tied in ICC Action

Atletico Madrid faced Chivas of Guadalajara for the International Champions Cup in Arlington, Texas last Tuesday. After the end of regulation, the score remained tied at 0-0, so penalty kicks were required to decide a winner. Atletico’s goalkeeper Antonio Adan was the hero of the night after he blocked the penalty kick to win the game.

Both teams had multiple opportunities to score. For Atletico, who are still in preseason, it was not their day to get any goals. Diego Costa and Alvaro Morata, who started the match, could not find the net despite having chances. Also, the weather and the field conditions (match was played in a baseball field) did not let Atletico control the ball the way they would want it.

Chivas, on the other hand, created some opportunities in offense but its strikers were ineffective, as they have been during the preseason and the beginning of the Liga MX action.

Atletico Madrid is preparing for a demanding La Liga season where they have to fight against powerhouses such as Real Madrid and Barcelona. Especially now that they lost some key players like Diego Godin, who join Inter Milan or Antoine Griezmann who left the club to join the current champions Barcelona.

Atletico Madrid will continue its US tour as they will face the MLS All Stars in a match in Orlando, Florida this coming July 31.
