A down to the wire win for the Portland Timbers against Sporting Kansas City

Just like the good old days, since that 2015 evening, whenever the Portland Timbers and Sporting Kansas City face off, we are brace for a lot of fireworks and a contest between these two sides.

However, for both squads’ managers these coming with dilemmas before game time, both sides were missing important players, due to international call ups and injuries.

Still this match never lacked a dull moment since the start.

For the Portland Timbers being somehow dominant in the first half and with near opportunities, the fortunes favored the likes of the Midwest goalkeeper Tim Melia in the first 45 minutes.

Still as both sides coming strong in the second half, the SKC Boys were hard at work but being stopped by a brilliant defensive Timbers backfield making the best of every play.

Come minute 65’ when Benny Feilhaber scored a golazo that for sure has to make it into this week goal of the week by its precision and detail that does not even the efforts shown by Steve Clark fruitless to stop the ball trajectory and score.

One thing these Portland Timbers never lack is fight, not today as in the past the Midwest Boys have come victorious in Providence Park and put a strain on the local’s attack.

As manager Savarese despite missing a great number of notable players from is eighteen, the man has all the right moves to make things happen, and today his substitutions late in the game paid off!

In the end this became a stunner of a game, when Diego Chara passing through traffic inside the area found a well-placed Jeremy Ebobisse and sending the whole of Providence Park into a frenzy in the 83’ minute.

With the game going into the injury time, it’s when another nutmeg of a play by Tomas Conechny passing the ball to Diego Valeri and finding Brian Fernandez and with a header on 90+4- the man became the game hero.

The Timbers perseverance in the end paid off and earned a very valuable win over SKC atop moving up the table to sixth overall and above the red line that awards a spot in the postseason and next with DC United in town.
