Whitecaps Settle for Draw against Charlotte

VANCOUVER, BC–Vancouver Whitecaps opened their 50th anniversary season before a home opener record crowd of 29, 624 at BC Place and played to a 1-1 draw with Charlotte FC. Charlotte went ahead in the 31st minute after a giveaway by the Whitecaps allowed Brecht Dejaegere to play the ball to Iury Tavares who scored from 12 yards out.

Enzo Copetti almost had a second two minutes later, but was denied by Yohei Takaoka. The Whitecaps would equalize in the fifth minute of first half stoppage time off a corner kick as Pedro Vite found Ryan Raposo who slotted the ball past Kristijan Kahlina.

Both teams had chances to break the deadlock in the second half, but neither side would capitalize and it was honors even in Vancouver.

The Whitecaps travel next Saturday to take on San Jose Earthquakes. Kickoff is at 7:30pm PT on Apple TV.
