FOXBOROUGH, MA– The New England Revolution have reportedly expressed interest in signing Argentinian forward Germán Cano from Brasileiro Série A side Fluminense FC.

He would occupy a senior roster slot and would have to be rostered as a Designated Player according to MLS Roster rules.

Germán Cano is a 35-year-old, 5’9, 157lb striker from Lomas de Zamora, Argentina.

At the club level, Cano has played 577 career games (44,242 minutes) across Argentina, Colombia, Paraguay, Mexico and Brazil with Club Atlético Lanús (2007-2012), Club Atlético Chacarita Juniors (2009-2010 loan), Club Atlético Colón (2011 loan), Deportivo Pereira F.C. S.A. (2011 loan), Club Nacional (2012 loan), Deportivo Independiente Medellín (2012-2015), Club de Fútbol Pachuca (2015-2019), Club León (2016-2017 loan), Deportivo Independiente Medellín (2018 loan), Deportivo Independiente Medellín (2019-2020), Vasco De Gama (2020-2022), and Fluminense FC (2022). New England would be his 11th club.

Internationally, Cano has never made an appearance for Argentina.

In career numbers, the forward has contributed 292 career goals, 41 assists, along with 76 yellow cards and 2 red cards.

According to Argentinian journalist César Luis Merlo, The New England Revolution had reportedly inquired about Argentinian striker Germán Cano.

The reporter, César Merlo, was the first to report Tomás Chancalay’s signing in New England.

However, due to CURRENT MLS Roster rules, the team would currently be un-able to sign the player.

As of today, New England currently has all 3 of their Designated Player Slots filled. Those slots are filled by club captain Carles Gil (contracted thru 2024), Giacomo Vrioni (contracted through 2025), and Tomás Chancalay (contracted through 2026). In order for New England to sign Germán Cano, they would need to open one of their 3 DP slots.

Sources state that MLS will be adding a coveted 4th Designated Player slot in 2024.

Sources have also stated to me that New England are actively searching for a Young DP to join their roster.

Following the appointment of Curt Onalfo to Sporting Director, New England Revolution have begun their search for a new head coach to begin their 2024 sight of acquiring their coveted MLS Cup in the upcoming 2024 MLS campaign.
