FOXBOROUGH, MA– The New England Revolution (14-10-9, 52 pts.) were defeated 3-2 versus Nashville SC (13-10-10, 49 pts.)in a match on Saturday night.

The match kicked off at 7:30 p.m. ET at Geodis Park in Nashville, Tennessee to a crowd of 20,000.

The team started their lineup in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Jacob Jackson starting in net with a backline of Henry Kessler, Dave Romney, and Omar Gonzalez.  The defensive midfield spots were manned by Mark-Anthony Kaye (left), Matt Polster (right), The midfield roles were manned by Emmanuel Boateng (left), Nacho Gil (right wing), and Carles Gil (center) in the attacking midfield role. Gustavo Bou and Tomás Chancalay started the match in the striker positions.

Midfielder Ian Harkes remains unavailable due to a fractured his Adam’s Apple. His timetable is unknown.

Defender Andrew Farrell is out tonight with an apparent right leg injury.

Goalkeeper Jacob Jackson makes his MLS debut

The match kicked off with New England starting in the center circle. Tomás Chancalay played the ball backwards as New England decided to build out of the back to start the match.

 

The first moment of the match came in the 12th minute when #14 Jacob Shaffelburg’s ball to the back post was met with a half volley from Sam Surridge past Jacob Jackson, but he was called offside.

Just 4 minutes later, Nashville SC midfielder #10 Hany Mukhtar had a huge chance that was met with a big save by Jacob Jackson.

In the 19th minute, Nashville took the early 1-0 lead.

Following a give and go with #8 Randall Leal and #10 Hany Mukhtar, #8 Randall Leal played a ball into the box that met a header from #9 Sam Surridge. His header struck the bar and the ball deflected to the top of the box, which was met with a half volley from #6 Dax McCarty, which went directly into the top corner of the goal. There was nothing that Jacob Jackson could do. This is McCarty’s 1st goal this season.

Entering the 30th minute, Nashville added to their lead.

Following a long ball over the top by #2 Daniel Lovitz to #10 Jacob Shaffelburg, he found #9 Sam Surridge WIDE OPEN in the box for a clear header past Jacob Jackson. He was completely unmarked and there was nothing that Jackson could do to save it. This is Surridge’s 1st MLS goal this season.

Just 2 minute later, Nashville had yet another chance as #10 Hany Mukhtar unleashed a rocket that was met by a spectacular save by Jacob Jackson.

Just 5 minutes after that save, Jacob Jackson had yet another spectacular save on Shaffelberg.

Entering the 42nd minute, Nashville SC forward Hany Mukhtar was issued a yellow card for a foul on Carles Gil.

In the 45+3 minute, Nashville added to their lead once more.

Following a New England chance, Nashville SC started a spectacular counter attack that was led with #10 Hany Mukhtar charging up the field and playing a ball into space to find #9 Sam Surridge for a one-time finish past Jacob Jackson. This is Surridge’s second goal of the match and 2nd goal in MLS this season.

After the goal, the match entered halftime with Nashville ahead 3-0.

Entering the second half, Revolution head coach Clint Peay made three substitutions. He substituted Mark-Anthony Kaye, Nacho Gil, and Emmanuel Boateng, and replaced them with Tommy McNamara, Ryan Spaulding, and Jack Panayotou.

The second half began with Nashville starting from the center circle.

 

Entering the 49th minute, New England grabbed one back with their first chance of the match.

Following a good press by Jack Panayotou, the ball found Gustavo Bou who sent a cross into the area to find Tomas Chancalay for the volley goal past #1 Joe Willis. This is his 5th MLS goal this season.

Just before the 60th minute, Nashville SC midfielder Dax McCarty was issued a yellow card for a foul on Carles Gil.

In the 64th minute, Revolution head coach Clint Peay made his fourth substitution by replacing Henry Kessler with Ben Sweat. Kessler was on a minutes restriction.

In the 71st minute, New England lowered the deficit once more.

Following another interception by Jack Panayotou, he found Ryan Spaulding, who played the ball to Carles Gil. He took 3 touches before taking a left footed shot that was spilled by goalkeeper #1 Joe Willis and was met with a rebound goal by Tomas Chancalay. This is Chancalay’s 6th MLS goal this season.

Entering the 83rd minute, Revolution head coach Clint Peay made his fifth and final substitution by replacing Gustavo Bou with Giacomo Vrioni.

In the 90th minute, Revolution midfielder Matt Polster was issued a yellow card for a foul on #10 Hany Mukhtar.

After the 90+3 minutes, Nashville held on for the 3-2 victory.

The New England Revolution (14-10-9, 52 pts.) return to Foxborough, Massachusetts to close out the MLS regular season as they face the Philadelphia Union (15-10-8, 55 pts.) in an MLS Match on Saturday, October 22nd. The match kicks off at Gillette Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app.
