COMMERCE CITY, CO–Colorado Rapids kept their faint playoff hopes alive with a 3-1 win over Vancouver Whitecaps, whose own playoff hopes are virtually dashed with the loss. The Rapids are seven points adrift of Real Salt Lake for the seventh and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Vancouver are now nine points back.

It was Vancouver who took the lead in the ninth minute after Brian White took advantage of a defensive miscue by Lalas Abubakar to give the Whitecaps the lead. However, Gyasi Zardes would equalize in the 21st minute and then took the lead on 33 minutes after Diego Rubio scored from the penalty spot after Ranko Veselinovic took down Jonathan Lewis in the area. Lewis scored himself from an acute angle in the 75th minute to put matters to bed.
