Red Stars Sidebar: St. Georges Adding More Balance

Bridgeview, IL-The Chicago Red Stars were in need to find some continuity and consistency in its starting line-up in recent matches.
Over the last couple of matches, the Red Stars haven’t been able to pick up victories or even find a way to put the ball into the back of the net.
Bianca St. Georges was one that moved back into a starting role on Sunday afternoon against New York/New Jersey Gotham FC, after taking on a substitute role in the San Diego Wave match at Soldier Field on July 30th. She also was playing with Canada in the Concacaf W Tournament before that.
St. Georges role was beneficial in helping Chicago pull out a 2-0 victory at SeatGeek Stadum on Sunday.
“It’s good to be back together,” St. Georges said. “It’s just fun and that’s why I like to play with them, because I feel like we enjoy ourselves a lot. It’s something that I feel that we’re not satisfied, and we have a lot to work on. But it’s comforting as the game goes on, we’re getting better.”
Her efforts on the field were seen from the rest of the team and from the coaching staff of what her ability gives to other players.
“She certainly has the ability to get behind people,” Chicago Red Stars head coach Chris Petrucelli said. “She’s athletic and caused a lot of danger on the outside and caused a lot of problems for the other team.”
As for the scoring, the Red Stars first goal was scored by Tatumn Milazzo’s second career goal on a header from a Danielle Colaprico service five minutes in extra time before the half ended.
Then, Ava Cook had a header off a free kick from Mallory Pugh that made the score 2-0 in the 66th minute.
The victory was one to get the team back on track of winning again as a group and something to look forward with a 4-match road trip that’s ahead of them.
“A win like this was huge coming off the last couple of games,” Petrucelli said. “We had a little bit of a hangover from the San Diego game. I didn’t feel like we started the game well with great energy. But, we were able to grind through it and the three points are huge. This will give us a boost with some hard games coming up.”
