If Philadelphia Union fans were frustrated by the spate of draws earlier in the season, it now seems to have been forgotten.  In its last five winning games including Houston, Philadelphia scored a total of 18 goals while letting up a mere 3 goals.

On Saturday evening, the Union controlled the entire game.  The scoring started at the 23rd minute, when Dániel Gazdag scored on a lovely combination started by a long punt from Jack McGlynn to Mikkel Uhre, who held up play until he could pass to Alejandro Bedoya.  Bedoya made a soft pass through to a cutting Dániel Gazdag, who shot left.

Philadelphia’s second goal came from a free kick awarded to the Union outside of the box.  Both Kai Wagner and McGlynn lined up to take the kick, but McGlynn ended up taking a perfectly crafted shot that elevated over the Houston wall and landed in the lower left corner of the Houston goal.

The third goal was scored in the 1st minute of a 2 minute stoppage time.  Olivier Mbaizo threaded the needle through the Houston defense to a moving Uhre, who comfortably scored on hard shot to the left.

Uhre scored his brace in the opening minutes of the second half.  Bedoya passed through to the speedy Uhre, who quickly ran through the Houston defense and the Houston goal.

The “Committee” would not complete its scoring without Julián Carranza getting in on the action.  So, at the 55th minute, Bedoya passed the ball to Carranza, who spun the ball around and hit the lower left corner of the net.

Finally, the 6th goal resulted from the Academy Kidz working together.  First, Paxton Aaronson picked the Héctor Herrera’s pocket, passed to Cory Burke, which was picked up by McGlynn.  McGlynn passed to Quinn Sullivan, who shot hard to the left side of the goal.  In all likelihood, the shot was on target without the slight deflection by Herrera, but the deflection ensured the goal.
