Revolution Break Points Record In 1-0 Win Vs. Rapids

Only two seasons ago, the New England Revolution were a non-playoff team, struggling to get results and had one of the worst records in MLS. Wednesday night, the Revolution would face off against the Colorado Rapids looking to break the Major League Soccer all-time single season points record. The Revs return from a road trip in which they claimed the Supporters Shield and earned a hard fought point in a comeback draw. A strong lineup for the Revolution featured all three designated players as well as rising star, Tajon Buchanan.

The match would start out with both teams being clean and organized. With both sides having something to play for, a tactical match was in the makings. The best chance of the half came when a strong Colorado shot was turned away by Revs goaltender Matt Turner in a full extension dive to his left. A number of chances were created from both sides, but neither team could capitalize in the first 45 minutes.

The second half saw more of an offensive approach from the Revs. In the 74th minute it was Buchanan who broke through for the home side. Buchanan was able to find his way through a crowded defense and tuck it past the Rapids keeper. This marks the Canadian’s 8th goal of the season.

The Revolution were able to hold on for their 8th clean sheet of the year in a 1-0 win and move to 73 points, setting the MLS single season record. The unbeaten streak extends to 10 matches as the Revs look to finish strong going into the 2021 playoffs.
