In desperate times, the Portland Timbers bring back midfielder George Fochive

What better timing for the Portland Timbers to bring back an old familiar face in defensive midfielder George Fochive. As you recall, Fochive was drafted by the Timbers back in 2014 and was a part of that 2015 team that won the league and was traded the next season.

George Fochive comes from the Israeli side Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv FC of the Israeli Premier League and playing with Hapoel Kfar Saba (2020-21) and Hapoel Hadera (2019-20). Prior to his time in the Israeli Premier League, he played for Danish side Viborg FF (2016-2019).

In 11 MLS regular-season appearances in 2015, Fochive made eight starts in his second season with the Timbers. He made his MLS regular-season debut against Real Salt Lake on March 7, starting and logging 86 minutes in the club’s season opener. He tallied his first career MLS assist against the Colorado Rapids in a 4-1 win on Oct. 25 at Providence Park. Fochive also made seven appearances on loan with T2 in USL during the 2015 season, recording four goals.

George Fochive will bring with him a lot of international experience and be a huge contributor defensively for the Rose City side.

The arrival of Fochive is to aid to a depleted roster filled with several notable players on the injured reserve, very well playing alongside Eryk Williamson in the defensive midfield in lieu of an injured Diego Chara.
