Houston Dash dropped two points in the last minute of the match against Kansas City. The visiting team went up on the score in the first half, and after getting behind 2-1 in the second forty-five, they found the equalizer in stoppage time.

The match served to start the NWSL regular season in Htown as the Dash received the visit of the league’s newcomers Kansas City FC. The away team scored at the 13th minute of the match when a well done counterattack was finished by Amy Rodriguez. After the goal, the visitors controlled the tempo of the match, especially at midfield. Houston was struggling in the middle as Sophie Schmidt could not find her rhythm to help the Orange in the offensive side. This also made the job harder for Kristie Mewis and Shea Groom to create plays to find the equalizer.

The KC defense was on point on Sunday evening. Their back line was making some big defensive plays and their pressure made the home team to rush their shots. At the end of the first forty-five minutes of action, the partial score was 0-1.

The second half started with a different rhythm for the home team. Schmidt started to control the ball and this switch the momentum of the match. At the 60’ Houston found the equalizer when Rachel Daly flicked the ball over the goalkeeper to get her 29th goal with Houston, which broke a record hold by Kealia Watt (28).

The match slowly started to tilt to the Dash direction and six minutes later, Shea Groom headed in after a corner kick from Kristie Mewis. By this time, Houston was way superior then the Midwest team. However, in stoppage time Taylor Leach scored the final 2-2 after a cross from Mariana Larroquette which beat Jane Campebell and got her side a point on the road.

Now, Houston Dash will receive Washington Spirit. This match was schedule to be played at DC, but due to some construction delays at the stadium, the league moved the match to Houston. On the other side, Kansas City will host Chicago Red Stars. Both matches will be played on Wednesday, May 26th.
