Seattle Sounders Edge Portland Timbers 2-1 in Cascadia Cup Rivalry at Providence Park

Seattle Sounders took the three points out of Providence Park in a hard fought match over their Cascadia Cup rivals The Portland Timbers. Ater a first half that ended on a nell-nell tie, all goals came in the second half. It was a tactical and at times chippy game, Seattle imposed their order over a Portland Timbers that couldn’t find spaces in the tight Seattle defense.

The Timbers had their chance to get ahead, but Diego Valeri, failed twice to score from the penalty mark. A minute later, at 63, Raúl Ruidíaz did not waist his chance, after referee Chris Penso, awarded Seattle with a penalty.

Fredy Montero, would double the lead in the 79 minute, assisted by João Paulo and Bill Tuiloma for the Timbers rounded the score with a free kick after a foul on forward Felipe Mora four minutes into injury time.
