The Portland Timbers five goal rout over an ineffective CD Marathon, thanks to a Yimmy Chara treble, advancing into CCL Quarterfinals

Portland Timbers 5 CD Marathon 0

Simply put, these Portland Timbers were too much for an ineffective CD Marathon that did not show any resolve or opposition after getting slammed by an effective and inspired Rose City side on a beautiful sunny afternoon in the colossus of Goose Hollow.

This game belonged to its man of the match, Yimmy Chara, delivering with a hat trick and sentencing the Green Monsters to a not-so-pleasant return home flight, and a 5-0 rout, eliminating them from this tournament 7-2 on aggregate.

For the younger of the Chara clan, the man gave the Rose City side the lead in the first half with a couple of goals made possible with assists from Dairon Aspirilla looking to make an impact in 2021.

With a couple of goals and his first hat trick, the combination of Aspirilla and Chara cemented the win in a game, where the Green and Gold had it under control in its entirety.

In the second half, Diego Valeri scored in the 66the and later came the Yimmi Chara’s cushion goal with a hat trick in the 78th minute and to culminate the rout, Marvin Loria closed it with a goal in the 89the to seal a notable win.

Contrary to game where the Timbers could not score in San Pedro Sula and came away with the draw, today was a different story as they showed off a dynamic offensive game and a stingy defensive game that pummeled the Green Monsters.

Very well advancing into this tournament quarterfinals and eliminated in the early rounds, the Timbers await either Honduran side Olimpia or Liga MX giant Club America as their next foes.

For now, it’s one game at a time for Giovanni Savarese and now prepare for their league debut next Sunday against the Vancouver Whitecaps at Rio Tinto Stadium to kick off the 2021 Major League Soccer season.
