VAR would play a key role in the Sounders equalizing (eventually) in their match against Columbus. The Crew did score on their only shot of the first half as a well-worked combination between Artur, Luis Diaz, and Gyasi Zardes culminated in Zardes putting the visitors ahead in the 33rd minute.

However, VAR spotted a handball on Harrison Afful on Nouhou Tolo’s cross in the 77th minute. Eloy Room initially saved Raul Ruidiaz’s spot kick, but VAR would dictate a retake showing Room well off his line before the kick. Ruidiaz scored on the retake and it was honors even on the night. VAR also disallowed a Sounders goal earlier in the second half showing Miguel Ibarra offside before scoring in the 53rd minute. The crowd was 33,080 which is lower than usual given the situation with the coronavirus in King County.
