Vancouver Whitecaps 3-Chicago Fire 2

The 2018 Vancouver Whitecaps wild season had another eventful turn on Saturday night at BC Place. Thanks to their three goals they withstood the Chicago Fire in a 3-2 win.

Kei Kamara gave Vancouver the lead with his goal in the 28th minute of the match. The Fire equalized though with Nemanja Nikolic doing the honors in the 42nd minute. After conceding the lead late in the first half the big question was how Vancouver would respond in the second half. The answer was given rather quickly as Jordon Mutch gave them the lead again with a strike in the 47th minute. Kamara netted his second in the 72nd minute to give the Caps a little bit of breathing room. That goal turned out to be valuable as an old friend Tony Tchani (82′) closed the lead to 3-2 with minutes to play.

Chicago nearly equalized after Jonathan Campbell connected on a header off of a corner kick in the 88th minute. While his chance made more than a few Whitecaps supporters nervous they could breathe easy after it hit the crossbar. Fire defender Kevin Ellis had a good crack at it himself but inevitably headed his shot over the bar.

With the win Vancouver stays in the sixth spot in the Western Conference (7-7-5, 26 points). In addition to bagging the three points it was also a big night for their two goalscorers. With his two goals on the evening Kamara moves into seventh place all-time among MLS goal scorers, moving just ahead of Canadian legend Dwayne De Rosario.

As for Mutch he may need to score a few more to reach Kamara’s mark of 105 but he did achieve a very important milestone with his first ever MLS  goal.

On hand to cover the match was Prost Amerika photographer Gerrit te Hennepe. You can check out his shots from the match below and all of his Whitecaps photos from the 2018 season on SmugMug.
