Atlanta United FC 0-1 Chicago Fire

ATLANTA, GA—A 54th minute strike from Nemanja Nikolic was all the Fire needed as they left Atlanta 1-0 winners over Atlanta United in the Fifth Round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. The Fire now host Louisville City FC (2-1 winners over Nashville SC) on July 18th at Toyota Park.
The goal was a tic-tac-toe passing sequence starting with Bastian Schweinsteiger, to Luis Solignac, and to Nikolic for a tap-in. Nikolic accounts for all the Fire’s scoring so far in the competition outside penalty shootouts.
Hector Villalba came closest for the Five Stripes with six shots, but just one on target.
The Fire return to league action on Saturday to take on Seattle Sounders FC at 9:30pm CT on ESPN+ while Atlanta hosts Portland on Sunday at 3:30pm CT on FOX.
