Columbus Crew 3-Chicago Fire 0

When the Columbus Crew traded for Gyasi Zardes in the offseason supporters were wondering which Zardes they were getting. Would it be the player of 2014 who scored 16 goals? Or would it be the player who struggled through injuries and playing defense of all places from 2017? As this campaign goes on it is becoming more and more apparent that they have the goalscorer. That is good news for the Crew and bad news for the rest of the league. On Saturday night at MAPFRE Stadium Zardes continued his comeback run with a two goal performance in Columbus’ 3-0 win over the Chicago Fire.

While Zardes did not score Columbus’ first goal he certainly had a hand in creating it, taking the foul inside Chicago’s penalty box to earn a direct kick. Federico Higuain made the most of his chance, burying his shot in the back of the net to make it 1-0. Higuain’s goal was his third of the 2018 season. Zardes added two more himself in the second half to put the match away at 3-0 and give him eight for 2018 most in MLS. Goalkeeper Zack Steffen earned his third consecutive clean sheet.

On hand to cover the match was Prost photographer Julie Jackson. She will be covering the Crew all season long so make sure to give her a follow on Twitter and check out all of her work from the 2018 season on SmugMug.
