Vancouver, BC- No Drogba? No problem for Phoenix Rising FC. Despite playing without their Ivorian owner/part-time teammate the Rising showed on Sunday at Thunderbird Stadium that their side is about more than just one player. Against a Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 side looking to play spoiler Phoenix earned a convincing 4-0 win.

Midfielder Alessandro Riggi (4′) and Jason Johnson (6′) each scored in the first ten minutes of the match to give Phoenix an early 2-0 advantage. The second half would provide more of the same for the Rising with forward Chris Cortez (50′) and midfielder Gladson Awako (76′) each adding to the scoring haul. With the victory Phoenix moves into sole possession of fifth place (13-7-7, 46 points) in the USL Western Conference standings three points ahead of the Tulsa Roughnecks (13-11-4, 43 points).

On hand to cover the match was Prost photographer Gerrit te Heneppe. You can check out his gallery from the match and below and all of his Whitecaps FC 2 photos on SmugMug.
