Prost Amerika columnist Alan Hinton spent time with the Seattle Sounders FC at their preseason training camp in Tucson. In the video below, he shared his thoughts on the team and forward Obafemi Martins’ move to China.

Hinton also commented on the English Premier League and Louis van Gaal’s dicey situation at Manchester United.

Seattle Sounders FC preseason training camp

“The most amazing thing I saw was this new fullback Joevin Jones…I think he could be the best left fullback the Sounders have ever had.”

Newly acquired defender Joevin Jones impressed the former First Division winger with his first touch, crosses, quickness and two-footed capabilities.

According to Hinton, the 23-year-old, who last year played for the Chicago Fire, may be Seattle’s best left back in club history.

Sounders FC without Obafemi Martins

“It looks as if he (Jordan Morris) might get more opportunities to play if Obafemi Martins has gone to Shanghai in China to play.”

Sounders FC GM Garth Lagerwey confirmed the team was planning to move on without the services of striker Obafemi Martins, who is expected to play in China. Martins’ departure could provide Jordan Morris additional playing time.

Will Louis van Gaal survive at Manchester United?

Last week Manchester United lost 2-1 to Sunderland. The defeat dropped the Red Devils to a dozen points behind league leader Leicester City.

Hinton noted manager Louis van Gaal’s complaints about his status with the club. He felt it was inevitable the Dutchman would be replaced, possibly by former Chelsea head coach Jose Mourinho.
