Seattle Sounders FC has signed defender Andrés Correa, the club announced today. The 21-year-old Colombian international will be added to Sounders FC’s roster immediately following receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate. Per Major League Soccer and club policy, additional terms of the deal are not being disclosed.

“We are pleased to welcome Andrés to Sounders FC,” said Seattle General Manager and President of Soccer Garth Lagerwey. “He is a dynamic, exciting young player that we believe can compete for minutes on our backline as we head into a packed season across multiple competitions.”

Correa, 21, has spent the last four years with Fortaleza and Medellín, making 17 career appearances for the two clubs in the Colombian First Division. He also has 10 appearances for Colombian Youth National Teams, helping his nation to a first-place finish in the 2013 U-20 South American Championships.

“Andrés is a very good young player with a tremendous upside,” said Sounders FC Head Coach Sigi Schmid. “Although he’s a young player, we believe he can be a contributor this year and we look forward to working with him throughout preseason camp.”

Correa and Schmid are being made available to media following today’s Sounders FC training session at Starfire Sports at approximately 11:30 a.m. PST.
