The season opener for the Portland Timbers was a repeat of the 2015 MLS Cup final, pitting the champions against rival Columbus Crew, this time at home. The pre-game ceremonies included lifting the championship banner, photo opportunities with the MLS Cup, and the singing of the national anthem by the Timbers Army (and really anybody who would care to join in.) The afternoon was filled with a lifetime worth of memories as the city flooded the stadium in recognition and support of the Portland Timbers FC in a record-extending sold out afternoon at iconic Providence Park. The game was nationally and internationally televised.
