Everything looked promising for the Portland Timbers when they went up on the scoreboard just eight minutes into the game. Franck Boli put his new team ahead with his third goal of the season and putting the Timbers ahead in the game.

However, it’s when Sporting Kansas City (3-8-4, 13 points) coming from a humiliating rout against their Midwest foes St. Louis City SC, delivered a rout over a clueless Timbers defensive backfield looking at times lost in the course of the game.

For a while, it looked like Portland was to add to its tally, but in the end, they came short, contrary to the home side growing in its game and being very ambitious as every minute passed by on the first half looking to tie the score.

It’s when SKC’s Erik Thommy with a spectacular shot outside the area and maintaining possession taking with him a couple of Portland Timbers and opening the score with a shot outside the area and beating Timbers keeper Aljaz Ivacic.

The hosts took the lead in he 43rd minute after Daniel Salloi took a rebound and pushed inside the net to later see his goal annulled by the game official after reviewing a foul by Danny Rosero inside the box.

Boli, had a couple chances to score and put the go-ahead goals for his team. His shot from the back post in the first minute of stoppage time missed the net and later former Timber keeper Kendall McIntosh tipped the ball away.

Still, SKC wasn’t done and started looking very aggressive in the attack. They came close to scoring what could been the go-ahead goal. As the Midwest side being persistent all afternoon long and looked to extend their lead.

A one-two combination with Graham Zusi sent a cross from the right side to Salloi streaking into the six-yard line and with no hesitation sending the ball inside the net with his right foot and putting SKC ahead in the 66th minute.

Not even two minutes passed by when Larrys Mabiala was to score an own goal in the minute 68th to put the local SKC side ahead in the scoreboard, 3-1.

To conclude the match and on stoppage in the 90+1 minute, Felipe Hernandez scored what became the cushion goal for a final score of 4-1 and exposing the Portland Timbers mediocre defense once again.
