Match Preview: Columbus Crew vs New England Revolution

The Columbus Crew are back on the road for the first time this month, as they head to the New England area to face yet another MLS original in the New England RevolutionAfter a commanding 3-0 win over D.C. United last week, the Black & Gold look to keep the ride high in search of their first win in Foxborough since 2019.

“Our mindset is to go on the road, get our first win on the road, get our third clean sheet in a row and get our third positive result in a row,” said head coach Caleb Porter.

“You can see similar to what we went through last year,” Porter went on to say. “It happens to everyone in our league. You put a lot in the Champions League, you have a great year the year prior, so that Champions League becomes more of an emphasis and then that’s gone and then now your players are now sometimes caught between their hunger and getting back on the league, that takes a couple games or two or a period to get over that hangover from the Champions League.”

Columbus are the favorites, as they hold a 38-29-18 (W-L-T) record all-time over the Revolution. The last meeting came at Gillette Stadium last year, as the Crew battled New England to a 1-1 draw, with a visibly-injured Eloy Room in net to steal a point on the road.

For the home side Revolution, they have not one, but two added boosts to push them for a victory. A recent win over Inter Miami gives New England the advantage as they are playing at home. However, with USMNT star keeper Matt Turner back in net before his summer departure to Arsenal, that gives the MLS original side confidence to pull out a win over their Columbus counterparts.

Columbus: Kevin Molino (R Knee) remains listed as OUT. Milos Degenek (L Thigh) and newly added Steven Moreira (L Thigh) are QUESTIONABLE.

New England: Jon Bell (Upper Leg) and Gustavo Bou (Upper Leg) are QUESTIONABLE.
