COLUMBUS – The Columbus Crew 2 has added another addition, in Daniel Strachan to an MLS Next Pro professional contract, pending league and federation approval.

Columbus Crew 2 sign Daniel Strachan

Strachan, who hails from the hometown of Lakewood, Ohio — the same as Crew midfielder Darlington Nagbe — most recently played for the University of Akron from 2017 to 2021. During his time with the Zips, he appeared 92 times, scoring three goals and providing six assists.

Captain of the team, Strachan helped Akron win two MAC Tournaments (2017, 2018) and reach the College Cup Final (2018). The newly minted Crew 2 defender earned several personal honors during his tenure, including being named to the USC NCAA Division I Men’s North Region Third Team (2021) and the Second Team All-MAC (2019, 2020, 2021).

While playing collegiately, Strachan also played for amateur side Tormenta FC 2 of USL League Two in 2019 and 2021. He is also a prodcut of the Cleveland Internationals Academy, where he played from 2006-2017. In the 2016 year, Strachan was rated as the 18th-ranked player in the Great Lakes Region.

Strachan, who stands 6’3″ is another defensive piece that can anchor an already strong backline for Crew 2.

Columbus Crew 2 is set to face off against the New England Revolution II this Sunday from Gillette Stadium at 2pm ET. You can watch the match on the official MLS Next Pro website.
