VANCOUVER, BC–The Vancouver Whitecaps kept their playoff hopes alive with a 2-1 win over Sporting Kansas City at BC Place on Sunday night. Ryan Gauld and Russell Teibert scored for the Whitecaps before Johnny Russell pulled one back for the visitors. All goals were in the first half.

The win puts the Whitecaps in eighth in the Western Conference, just one point behind seventh-place Minnesota. Sporting KC miss a chance to gain ground on first place Seattle (who lost away to Houston) and remain five points back in second place.

Next up for the Whitecaps is a vital away match on Wednesday against Portland while Sporting KC is away to Seattle on Saturday.
