October 6, 2021

The Washington Spirit traveled to Subaru Park in Chester, PA for what was billed as Carli Lloyd’s last local home game for NJ/NY Gotham FC, although she will continue to play for Gotham and for the USWNT in the fall.  The game ended in a 0-0 draw, but the score seemed like the least important facet of the game.

At around the 6th minute the game halted with a circle of both teams to highlight recent harassment issues in the league.

But Lloyd was indisputably the star of the show.  The game was staged at Subaru Park to capture Lloyd’s south Jersey fan base.  In fact, the crowd numbered just under 10,000, exceeding Gotham’s average at a bit shy of  3,500.  The sizable crowd voiced appreciation for all that Lloyd has done for the women’s game.

Pictures of the game appear below.

The game stopped at the 6th minute in protest of harassment in the league.

Gotham’s Allie Long fed Lloyd and the offense all evening long.

It was Carli’s night to wave goodbye to the large crowd.
