EAST HARTFORD, CT–The US Women’s National team won their final tuneup prior to heading to the Olympics in Tokyo with a 4-0 win over Mexico at Pratt and Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field.
The US wasted little time in going ahead. Lindsay Horan struck on the volley just six minutes in for the opening score. Four minutes later, the lead was doubled as Christen Press headed in a cross from Crystal Dunn.
Mexico did not help their own cause as Reyna Reyes knocked the ball into her own net with Press fast approaching after Tobin Heath’s initial shot was saved in the 37th minute. Heath would get her goal two minutes later after a feed from Sam Mewis.

National Team head coach Vlatko Andonovski is confident of his side as they head to Tokyo.
“I feel good,” Andonovski said. “Very excited about the trip. Obviously I feel like we’re prepared. I feel like we are moving in the right direction and slowly but surely fulfilling all the tasks necessary to be fully prepared for the Olympics.”
The USA are drawn into Group G and will start with Sweden–the team that eliminated them in the quarterfinals at the Rio Games in 2016–on July 21st in Tokyo. Three days later, they face New Zealand in Saitama, Finally, they face Australia in Kashima on July 27th. The USA women are looking for their fifth gold medal all-time having won in Atlanta (1996), Athens (2004), Beijing (2008), and London (2012).
