Portland Timbers vs CD Marathon FC

April 13, 2021 5:00 PM PST/ 8:00 PM EST

Providence Park, Portland, Oregon

Tomorrow night will be the second leg between the Portland Timbers and CD Marathon in the always contested Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Round of 16 at Providence Park.

For a team playing in their first match in 2021, the Timbers really put on a show back in San Pedro Sula with a 2-2 draw in the first leg and looking to advance into the quarterfinals.

So far, the Green Monsters of Marathon, who are having a not-so-positive run in their nation’s league, played with a lot of heart and bounced back after going down twice.

In this second leg, manager Giovanni Savarese will have an upper hand being at home, but in today’s press conference, he simply stated his respect to the opposing team and is taking this second leg seriously.

As the Rose City side will rely heavily on its top playmaker and talisman Diego Valeri, the team has players of the likes of Jeremy Ebobisse maybe in the starting eleven along with Felipe Mora, Yimmy Chara, and Eryk Williamson.

All of these along with newcomers Josecarlos Van Rankin helped open up the score in the 35th minute with a pass to Felipe Mora for 1-0, it looked like that the Timbers’ defensive game can play a big role in stopping Marathon top playmakers.

However, the Green Monsters have some important players that can make the difference in the end with Edwin Solano, Emilio Izaguirre, Kevin Hoyos, and Kevin Arriaga, all looking to deliver an upset on the road.

In the end, this match will be decided by any team displaying their best game and taking advantage of their opportunities and putting on a stingy defense in its game, and carry its momentum till the end of the match.

Forecast

Even game and until the end, with no doubts the golden goal or penalty shootout may be the decider
