It’s official. Yimmi Chara is a Portland Timber, as the Colombian international joins the Rose City squad as a Designated Player from Brazilian Serie A side Atletico Mineiro.   

For Timber GM and President Gavin Wilkinson, once again his vision has brought us another quality player in Yimmi Chara to pair him with his older brother Diego Chara.

His addition for sure will boost the Timbers attack in the midfield along with his brother Diego, as these two siblings can become an unstoppable dynamic duo in 2020 in all of Major League Soccer!

With a career that spans from his native Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, and now US Major League Soccer; Yimmi Chara’s overall career spans over 350 professional appearances and 57 goals scored.

His official debut came with Deportes Tolima from 2010 to 2014, making 163 appearances (132 starts) tallying 38 goals in five seasons, Yimmi Chara contributions helped Tolima, claim its first-ever Copa Colombia title in 2014.

With Liga MX side C.F. Monterrey (2014-17), in his time with Rayados he scored a total of 12 goals in 61 appearances (39 starts) across all competitions, including a goal in three Concacaf Champions League appearances.

Moving on loan to Primera A side Atletico Nacional in 2015, making 26 appearances (24 starts) and scoring five goals and his club become Liga Aguila 2015 Champions.

He then moved on loan to Mexican side Dorados de Sinaloa in Mexico’s LIGA MX on 2016, scoring 1 goal in 16 appearances (16 starts).

Moving to Colombian Primera A league side Atletico Junior (2017-2018), he scored 18 goals in 52 appearances (47 starts) across all competitions, helping the Barranquilla side to win the 2017 Copa Colombia.

With Atletico Mineiro of the Brazilian Serie A-League, he played two seasons (2018-19), he scored 10 goals in 68 appearances across all competitions.

This includes three goals scored in Copa Sudamericana competitions also featuring in eight Libertadores Cup matches in 2019.

Yimmi Chara at the international level has made 10 appearances with the Colombia National Team, scoring one goal and one assist, since making his debut in a 3-0 win over El Salvador on October 10, 2014.

“Yimmi is a fantastic player. He has shown his qualities everywhere he has been. His work ethic and determination will make us a more competitive team,” Giovanni Savarese.
