Diego Valeri signs multi year extension with the Portland Timbers

Hallelujah, the Diego Valeri and the Portland Timbers saga have a happy ending.

As El Maestro and the club announced today that their Talisman player has signed to a multi-year contract extension using Targeted Allocation Money (TAM).

Ever since his arrival at Rose City side, the man has written many memorable chapters for the Green and Gold and setting several records in his seven-year stint with the Timbers.

Diego Valeri has earned multiple awards with the team, among one of them the Landon Donovan MLS MVP (2017), MLS Newcomer of the Year (2013), and three best XI recognition (2013, 2014, 2017).

Furthermore, Diego is to become the first Timber in history to earn MLS Cup MVP honors after scoring in Portland’s 2-1 in against Columbus Crew SC in the 2015 MLS final.   

Other achievements for Valeri include being a four-time MLS All-Star honoree (2014, 2016, 2017, 2018), in 2014 Valeri delivered the assist to Landon Donovan in that year MLS All-Star game against FC Bayern Munich at Providence Park.

Finally, for Gavin Wilkinson the Timbers general manager and president of soccer operations, the man has a big smile and with an enormous joy, the man has finalized one of the most important feats for the club in the preseason.

“Re-signing Diego was one of our priorities ahead of the upcoming season and we feel delighted to have been able to keep him in our roster,” said Giovanni Savarese, head coach of the Timbers.

“I am happy to extend my contract with the Portland Timbers,” said Timbers midfielder Diego Valeri. “I would like to thank all the people involved to make it happen as I always expected.
