Player Ratings
Player ratings for MLS Cup 2016 begin at 5.5 to 6/10 and are adjusted based on a variety of factors. Should a player have a solid game the 6 remains the base level standard. A player making a series of errors will be noted and the number lowered. A player impacting the game positively will show as a higher rating. Also, even playing generally well a defense surrendering three goals will see the defender ratings decrease and a team only scoring a late mop up goal in stoppage will see the offensive players scores affected.
Toronto had the better of the possession for a good portion of the match, especially in the first half. Once the Sounders scored, the attack and some personnel changed and the substitutions were not able to make up the difference. A good team effort, but once their possession advantage was negated by the goal, their ability to actually break Seattle down and get clear chances did not happen enough.
Prost MVP – Alejandro Pozuelo – Was knocked down early and often. Moved about in the attack and found spaces to still make an impact. Seattle could not take their eyes off of him and had to account for him for 90 minutes. Assisted on the late goal with a laser of a cross to Altidore.
Quentin Westberg – G – 5/10: Had a pretty solid first half, especially stuffing a Morris shot in the 9th minute. But, in the end gave up three goals in the second half and got burned on the third in an apparent mix up with his defense.
Auro – D – 5.5/10: Quiet solid defensive effort, but in the end they gave up three goals in the second half.
Chris Mavinga – D – 5/10: Part of the defense that had to deal with all of the movement and pressure of the Sounders counter. Once the first goal was scored and TFC had to push the play forward and take risks, the defense was left more open to the counter, like on the third Seattle goal.
Justin Morrow – D – 5.5/10: Helped keep TFC locked into the Seattle half in the first 45. Seattle’s counter and pressure broke down the TFC defense for three goals in the final third of the match. It’s just bad luck when a defender makes a play and it deflects the way it did on the first Seattle goal.
Omar Gonzalez – D – 5.5/10: Was lucky to not be booked early for a hard foul and so did not spend much of the match defending on a yellow. Nearly grabbed a late goal.
Jonathan Osorio – M – 6/10: Had an early chance in the 11th. Solid work rate in the middle. Subbed out in the 77th minute. His passes were remarkably accurate in the midfield log jam.
Marco Delgado – M – 6/10: The midfield battles were tough and nothing was easy for either side. Was in those battles throughout and made some important tackles.
Michael Bradley – M – 5.5/10: Had to deal with Gustav Svensson and often Lodeiro for 90 minutes. The midfield was not a place where passes went easily to their targets and neither side allowed many uncontested passes.

Tsubasa Endoh – M – 5/10: Fought on the right flank against the Sounders left side defense and constant runs. Might have had a chance in the 17th that did not materialize. DeLeon came on for him in the 62nd after the first goal.
Alejandro Pozuelo – M – 7/10: Had the Sounders defense on constant alert as he moved about across the TFC front. He was marked hard and still created chances. Assisted on the late goal.
Nicolas Benezet – F – 5.5/10: Came off to make way for Altidore. Cracked an early shot, but was not able to make the most of chances he got against the hard marking Sounders defense.

Richie Laryea – N/R: Played a little over a dozen minutes coming on late for Osorio with Seattle up 2.
Nick DeLeon – 5.5/10 – The first TFC substitute after the first Sounders goal. Good work rate, but not able to impact match as Seattle defended to the clock late.
Jozy Altidore – Came on as a late sub and appeared frustrated at times trying to get in sync, but showed his veteran experience getting the stoppage time goal.
