Seattle Sounders 3- New England Revolution 3

Another late proves to be costly for the Seattle Sounders. Despite having battled back from being a goal down in the second half the Sounders left the Link with just a point, having drawn 3-3 with the New England Revolution.

Seattle got things going with a goal from Harry Shipp in just the second minute of the match. New England responded though midway through the first half with Michael Mancienne (27′) and Gustavo Bou (35′) each scoring for the visitors. Mancienne’s goal was his first of the season while Bou now has three in five matches since joining the club from Racing.

Needing points and looking to stem a streak in which they had lost two of their last three matches the Sounders played the early part of the second half with a sense of urgency. It paid off with Shipp heading home his second of the match in the 65th minute. With his two goals he now has five on the season. They didn’t wait long to take the lead with Nico Lodeiro getting a bit of a deflection just a minute later.

As has happened though with the Sounders lately they were their own worst enemy late. A Jordy Delem handball in the 87th minute gave New England the perfect opportunity to walk away with a point. They didn’t miss with Carles Gil netting the equalizer to give coach Bruce Arena’s side a result far away from home.

With the point New England (9-9-7, 34 points) move into sixth place into the Eastern Conference standings, just two points behind D.C. United for fifth. Their road trip will continue next Saturday when they take on the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena (7pm EST, ESPN+).

As for Seattle (11-7-6, 39 points) while they retained their number two seed in the Western Conference they will likely look upon this performance with rose-coloured glasses. With both Minnesota and San Jose having dropped points the Sounders lost an opportunity to create some space between themselves and number three and four in the Conference. They will hope for better fortunes on the road next Sunday when they take on Real Salt Lake (10pm EST/7pm PST, ESPN+).
