Red Stars make local TV debut on NBC Sports Chicago + on Saturday.
On Wednesday, the Chicago Red Stars finalized a broadcast partnership that will see all Red Star home games and remaining away matches televised on NBC Sports Chicago.
It will start with Saturday’s home opener against the Portland Thorns at 2:30pm CT on NBC Sports Chicago Plus. Authenticated NBC Sports Chicago subscribers may also view a live stream of the match, plus every Red Stars telecast at NBCSportsChicago.com/WatchLive and the NBC Sports Watch Live app.
“We are very pleased to join the NBC Sports Chicago programming line-up this season and that pro women’s sports will be on television and easy to find.” Red Stars Owner Arnim Whisler said. “Our fans will now have full coverage of the Chicago Red Stars games in this great World Cup year. This is an exciting development in the right direction for our club.”

THOUGHTS: The Red Stars are making waves by adopting the slogan, “We are Chicago Women’s Soccer”. While the Fire retreat to online only with its local broadcasts with ESPN+, the Red Stars are trying to expand their base by putting themselves on television rather than leave its fans to search for the games online on Yahoo! Sports.
They are also trying to take advantage of a World Cup year for the women as many US National Team and international stars will pass through Bridgeview this season such as Portland’s Tobin Heath, Lindsey Horan, and Canadian international Christine Sinclair.
This TV deal can only help to get the word out about the Red Stars in only for their fans who can’t make it to the games not have to scurry for it on Yahoo! Sports online.
