Atlanta United trades Greg Garza

Atlanta United traded all-star Greg Garza to FC Cincinnati. In exchange, Atlanta United acquired $250,000 of Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) and $200,000 of General Allocation Money (GAM) from FC Cincinnati. He started all five matches of the club’s 2018 MLS Cup Playoff run, including playing 89 minutes in the Cup Final against Portland Timbers.

Atlanta United Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra praised and thanked the defender, “Greg was a consummate professional during his two years with our club and served as a good role model for our younger players while also playing an integral role in our run to MLS Cup We want to thank him for his dedication to the club and wish him well throughout the rest of his career.”

The 27 year old defender has been a member of Atlanta United since their first match in 20017 and combined to appear in 42 matches with 40 starts over two seasons. In 2017, Garza started 25 matches and scored two goals with three assists, while being named to the MLS All-Star Game. Garza missed the majority of the 2018 Regular Season after undergoing surgery in May to repair a torn labrum but did score one goal and add two assists in 11 matches.
