Jon Champion on title credentials

Jon Champion has said that Spurs will have limitations with their impending move to The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The well-respected commentator believes that their visitors Manchester City are the standard bearers in England. He told Prost International, “They are the team to beat, they’re the gold standard of the Premier League at the moment.” His thoughts came after City outlasted Spurs to claim a vital 1-0 win in the capital.

Of the other title challengers Champion believes Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are the side that pose the greatest threat to Pep Guardiola’s side, but feels more attention should be paid to Chelsea, “I think they [Chelsea] will be fairly relentless under Maurizio Sarri.

“But Liverpool are the ones who have a proven track record of beating Manchester City. If they can do that in the second half of the season that could make the title race distinctly interesting.”

A small nod was also paid to Arsenal who have been motoring along quite unnoticed under Unai Emery who is currently overseeing a 12 game unbeaten streak in all competitions – with 11 of those being consecutive wins, a possibility that had might be useful in a football manager simulator bought with a Virgin games discount code, should Arsenal be a chosen side.

“At this stage Arsenal have been a pleasant surprise.” Said Champion, “I just think they’ve got some really tricky fixtures between now and December 5th [Liverpool (H), Tottenham (H) and Manchester United (A)]. After they’ve played those games I’d be more willing to make a judgement on them.”
