They state better late than never. Despite this match happening on last week, still I will post an amazing story that caught all of my attention. After all the spirit of competition is what counts the most and these groups of individuals, believe me they put in the field their all-round heart and spirits. This is one of a kind contest and I salute all of the folks that take part in organizing it as well participating.

In this next piece, I will talk about  how rivalries can escalate from professional to amateur levels. This is where my story begins with Rivalry Week staged by Major League Soccer.

Between the league most contested and that highlights this so called week of contests. One particular comes to mind in the Cascadia Derby where the Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders staged ones of the most disputed rivalries.

With both fanbases  escalating the rivalry it is certainly a one of a kind contest the  day before the clash when these two titans meet. The two sides met in this edition on August 25th, one day before their clubs would meet.

Dubbed as Derby Day when these two squad’s followers meet in the annual TAFC VS ECS. With two of these squads fans looking forward to net those so-called bragging rights and dominance.

With the site of this amazing event celebrated in Buckman Field in Benson High School this event is with four matches.  With the Men’s over 40, the first match this one precedes with the Men’s II, Women’s Cup Match and Men’s I Cup Match.  The history for this grand event started in 2010 from a single match expanding to four, that same year the Timbers Army Men won the Cup, however the ECS dominance was from 2011-17.

Among one of the highlights of this competitions comes the Women’s group that started in participating since 2014.  The Whipsaws are the only women’s squad that proudly represent Rose City and proudly have won this event competition in succesion in this category. The TAFC VS ECS is another of the highlights of this rivalry that dates back quite sometime in the professional and amateur levels.

In the end, the spirit of competition and camaraderie prevailed with good times from both sides.

Therefore this competion has seen both groups getting their fair share of honors. I hailed the main event the Whipsaws in the end won renewed their last year title on penalty kicks. Below are this year’s results:

Mens over 40- TAFC 1-1 ECS, Gabriel Ughetto scored on a PK for the TAFC

Men’s II- TAFC 0- ECS 2

Men’s I Cup- TAFC 3- ECS 1 TA goals from Bruno Frankel, Matt Prokush and Matt Eronemo

The Women’s Cup match was tied at two goals apiece in regulation, with Angela Cavaleri on a corner from Holy Corbitt scoring the first goal and the second from TA made by Heidi Jo Grubbs. Going into penalties the TA heroes were Tyler Chase, Angela Cavaleri & Hillary Peck converting their PKS and defeating the ECS Women’s FC Roosevelt.

Congrats, to all of the participants for your hard work and spreading the good name of soccer and good sportsmanship in the amateur levels. Next year I will post this event schedule so you can have a glance of the spirit of competition.
