In their second match of International Champions Cup play Liverpool needed a stoppage time goal to beat Manchester City 2-1 at MetLife Stadium in front of a crowd of 52,635.

While Liverpool looked the better side through the first half, it was only after the introduction of Germany’s Leroy Sane that the scoring began. In the second half, despite Liverpool’s dominance, he opened the scoring for Manchester City in the 57th minute on a blazing run down the left side of the pitch.

It was not to last.

Five minutes later Liverpool introduced four substitutes, including Egyptian talisman Mohammed Salah who equalized via a header in the 63rd minute.

Liverpool laid on the pressure following the goal, but did not get rewarded until Dominic Solanke drew a penalty in the 93rd minute which was converted by Sadio Mane.

The crowd were heavily decked out in Liverpool red, and their fans composed a significant majority of attendees. The late winner caused them to erupt with significant joy. Those who stuck around were treated to the Liverpool squad taking a lap around MetLife Stadium to greet fans and sign autographs.

For City this was their second defeat, having already lost to Borussia Dortmund. The German side also beat Liverpool 3-1.
